San Rafael High's Bulldogs host Terra Linda's Trojans on Friday, Aug. 28, in the annual Bell Game at San Rafael High School, with the varsity kickoff set for 7 p.m.

San Rafael won the two most recent meetings, most recently reclaiming the Bell 46-13 in November 2025, a blowout covered by the Marin Independent Journal. San Rafael snapped an 18-year losing streak in the rivalry in 2021, and Principal Dominguez made his expectations clear in a school newsletter sent to families on Aug. 21.

"I have zero doubt that we'll keep the Bell right here at SR for another year," he wrote.

The game caps a Spirit Week with themed dress-up days: pajama day Monday, jersey day Tuesday, beach day Wednesday, class colors Thursday (freshmen in purple, sophomores in green, juniors in blue, seniors in pink) and extreme red and white on Friday. A back-to-school rally will precede the game Friday afternoon to send off both the JV and varsity squads.

The Bell Game is the season opener for both programs. The MCAL schedule shows the first eligible game date for the Redwood Empire Conference Mountain Division was Wednesday, Aug. 26, with league play beginning later in September.

Both schools have already shown signs of life this fall. San Rafael's girls volleyball team won its first home match since 2023, outlasting Hercules in five sets on Aug. 20. Across town, Terra Linda's flag football squad opened with a 13-6 win over Sonoma Valley the same day, with freshman quarterback Mira Weidner throwing for 109 yards and two touchdowns, as reported by the Marin IJ.

As we reported Monday, both schools opened their fall sports calendars last week.

The rivalry dates back more than six decades. The Terra Linda Sports account on X billed the 2023 matchup as the 62nd annual Bell Game, which would place Friday's contest at approximately the 65th.

Gates open for the JV game at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity Bell Game at 7 p.m. at San Rafael High School.
