San Rafael High's girls flag football team enters the season as the MCAL's No. 1 tiebreaking seed and travels to Piner High in Santa Rosa for a 7 p.m. game Monday, Aug. 24.
Terra Linda's girls flag football team is also on the road Monday, traveling to Casa Grande in Petaluma. A kickoff time had not been announced as of Sunday, Aug. 23, according to the Marin Independent Journal's schedule listing.
Both games are nonleague contests. MCAL league play in girls flag football and girls volleyball begins Sept. 11, according to MCAL schedule documents.
Marin Catholic also opens its field hockey season Monday with a 4 p.m. match at University High in San Francisco.
Tuesday's slate
Tuesday, Aug. 25, features six events across three sports:
- Girls volleyball: San Rafael at Santa Rosa, 6 p.m.; Marin Catholic at Carondelet in Concord, 6:15 p.m.; Archie Williams at Terra Linda, 6:30 p.m.
- Water polo: Terra Linda girls at Las Lomas in Walnut Creek, 5 p.m.; Terra Linda boys at Las Lomas, 6 p.m.
- Girls golf: Marin Catholic vs. Novato, 3 p.m. at StoneTree Golf Club in Novato.
MCAL seedings to watch
The preseason tiebreaking seeds provide an early snapshot of the fall:
- Flag football: San Rafael No. 1, Marin Catholic No. 4, Terra Linda No. 7.
- Girls volleyball: Terra Linda No. 3, Marin Catholic No. 4, San Rafael No. 6.
- Girls golf: Marin Catholic No. 3.
San Rafael does not have a match listed on the MCAL girls golf schedule.
San Rafael City Schools completed new aquatic centers and improved athletic complexes at both San Rafael High and Terra Linda High in time for the 2026-27 school year, according to the Marin Independent Journal. Both aquatic centers include new 40-meter competition pools.
What's ahead
San Rafael, Terra Linda and Marin Catholic will continue their nonleague girls flag football and volleyball schedules through early September before MCAL league play begins Sept. 11.
Terra Linda's boys and girls water polo teams continue their early-season schedule Tuesday at Las Lomas.
