Downed power lines knocked out electricity for an estimated 3,198 customers along Point San Pedro Road on Wednesday, Oct. 7, according to Patch, citing PG&E.

PG&E logged the outage at 10:58 a.m. The San Rafael Police Department closed the intersection of Point San Pedro Road and Loch Lomond Drive and set up traffic control while first responders secured the scene.

SRPD issued a Nixle alert warning drivers to avoid the area and to treat any intersection with a nonfunctioning traffic signal as a four-way stop.

By 12:18 p.m., police said the lines had been cleared and the intersection was back open. Traffic signals at the intersection remained out at that time, according to a follow-up SRPD alert. Police said electricity had returned to most neighborhoods.

That alert cautioned that homes on Main Drive and Manzanita Avenue could still be without power and gave no restoration estimate. However, Patch’s 12:28 p.m. update said PG&E reported power restored to the affected area.

The police alerts did not identify what brought the lines down.

Police asked residents not to call 911 solely to report the power outage.
