Marin Catholic named Lauren Sanchez and Ryann Piry as co-head coaches of the varsity cheer team for the 2026–2027 season.

Both are Class of 2016 graduates and former cheer and dance team co-captains. The school announced the hires on its athletics coaches page on Sunday, Aug. 30.

The season is already underway.

The team held its annual pre-first-football-game ice cream social on Monday, Aug. 24, with Sanchez and Piry running the event alongside Head STUNT Coach Shelby Murphy and JV coach Tracy.

Sanchez brings 14 years of dance-teaching experience across Marin County programs. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from USC's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, with a minor in dance from the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. During her time at USC, she trained at the EDGE Performing Arts Center in Hollywood and learned from choreographers who worked with Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Madonna.

She also appeared as a background dancer in a Kacey Musgraves music video and was selected for the Steps on Broadway Summer Intensive in New York City.

As a Marin Catholic student, Sanchez earned the USA Cheer Camp Individual Spirit Award, the Most Valuable Player Award and the St. Sebastian's Sportsmanship Award. She had also served as a judge for Marin Catholic cheerleading tryouts before taking the coaching role. Outside the gym, she works in public relations in San Francisco.

Piry's path also circles back to Kentfield. A labor and delivery registered nurse, Piry choreographed halftime routines during her time as a student and earned both the St. Sebastian's Award and the Most Valuable Player honor. The school described Piry as returning with a deep appreciation for the program and a desire to pass that experience on to the next group of athletes, according to the coaches page.

The Marin Catholic varsity cheer team page lists the 2026–2027 season as current. Specific competition dates have not been published.
