The HeadsUp Education Foundation is asking San Rafael City Schools families to chip in before the end of October, with a districtwide giving campaign that turns elementary school participation into a competition.

The foundation's October newsletter announced the Annual Give Campaign, which runs through Oct. 31. A donation of any amount counts toward a school's participation rate. The elementary school with the highest percentage of families donating wins a popsicle party for the entire student body.

Families can donate through the foundation's online donation page through Oct. 31.

HeadsUp SR, the public education foundation for San Rafael City Schools, funds arts enrichment, physical education, wellness services and college counseling across the district. According to SchoolsRule Marin, the countywide coalition of public school foundations, San Rafael City Schools–HeadsUp received a $291,421 distribution from the coalition in 2025. The foundation says its programs support students throughout San Rafael City Schools.

In the foundation's September newsletter, Executive Director Michelene Moayedi wrote that PTO and PTA contributions fund needs specific to individual school communities, while HeadsUp pools resources to support programs across the entire district.

Wellness center tours spotlight student mental health

The October newsletter also highlighted recent wellness center tours at San Rafael High and Terra Linda High. SchoolsRule Marin Executive Director Melinda MacKaben led the visits, which drew community partners, donors, HeadsUp leaders and district administrators through both campuses.

The foundation thanked wellness coordinators Judy Schwerin at San Rafael High and Nicole Janson at Terra Linda High for their work. The newsletter described the centers as providing daily mental health resources to students and called wellness funding a priority for the foundation.

Fundraiser and upcoming events

A Sip and Shop fundraiser at North and Golden Boutique raised over $1,100 for HeadsUp, according to the newsletter. The foundation said the event drew attendees from across the district.

Two events are on the calendar. The SchoolsRule Marin gala, "A Season for Giving," takes place Nov. 7 at the Bill and Adele Jonas Center at College of Marin's Indian Valley campus in Novato. The evening includes a tribute to SchoolsRule Marin cofounder Trisha Garlock, live music by 'Til Dawn, and a farm-to-table dinner. Guest musician Levi Gillis, cofounder of The Dip, is also scheduled to perform.

HeadsUp's 20th Annual Book Talk and Luncheon is set for Dec. 4 at Book Passage in Corte Madera. Elaine Petrocelli, founder and CEO of Book Passage, will present her picks for the year's top books. A percentage of sales that day will go to HeadsUp.
