Terra Linda High School students collected 427 completed voter registration and pre-registration forms from classmates and delivered them to the Marin County Elections Office.
The campus-wide drive, organized by AP US Government & Politics students on Sept. 15 in recognition of National Voter Registration Day, put a classroom civics lesson to practical use on the San Rafael campus. Led by teacher Ashley Sanchez Ayoob, students hosted the event, guided peers through the registration process and answered questions about how to participate, according to a San Rafael City Schools district newsletter.
All 427 completed forms were sent to the Marin County Elections Office for processing.
Enrollment opens Nov. 2
San Rafael City Schools also announced in the newsletter that enrollment for the 2027-28 school year opens Monday, Nov. 2.
Families considering transitional kindergarten or kindergarten can attend one of two information sessions where district and school leaders, along with teachers, will cover programs, a typical school day, the Dual Language Program, aftercare options and how to enroll.
- Tuesday, Nov. 17, 6-7 p.m. at the Early Learning Center at Short School (English with Spanish interpretation)
- Thursday, Nov. 19, 6-7 p.m. at Bahia Vista Elementary School (Spanish with English interpretation)
Both sessions are open to all interested families.
New emergency protocol across district
The district is rolling out the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) at all schools this year. The system creates a shared, consistent approach to emergencies including fires, severe weather, intruders and accidents.
SRP uses five labeled actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter. Each action pairs a standard term with a specific directive so that students, staff and first responders follow the same steps during an incident. Parent guides are available in English and Spanish through the district newsletter.
Fentanyl prevention screening Oct. 28
San Rafael City Schools and the Marin County Office of Education are co-hosting a Spanish-language film screening and community discussion on fentanyl prevention, wellness and support on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at the new Davidson Middle School Multipurpose Facility.
The event, titled "La Estrella," is free and open to families and students, according to the district announcement.
