Terra Linda High School visits San Marin on Friday, Oct. 16, in a match with Marin County Athletic League girls volleyball playoff implications for both teams. MaxPreps lists San Marin as the home team.

San Marin (24-7, 2-5 MCAL) faces a must-win scenario to stay alive for the league playoffs, according to the Marin Independent Journal. Terra Linda (9-10, 3-4) enters the regular-season finale after a 25-10, 25-12, 25-10 loss to Branson on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Six teams qualify for the MCAL playoffs, which have a play-in game scheduled Monday, Oct. 19, if needed. First-round matches begin Tuesday, Oct. 20, according to MCAL’s schedule.

Redwood eyes the title

The biggest match Friday is at Marin Catholic, where Redwood (14-7, 7-0) needs one win to clinch the regular-season championship and the No. 1 playoff seed outright.

Redwood improved to 7-0 in league play with a four-set win over Tam on Wednesday, the Marin IJ reported. The Giants won 25-10, 22-25, 25-13, 29-27. Maddy Wagner led the way with 15 kills and 12 digs. Setter Katie Lazzareschi had 31 assists and 13 digs.

Jora Vangorder and Cali Grigg each added 11 kills. Logan Leverte contributed 10 digs and Annalise Horn had 17 assists and five aces.

A Marin Catholic victory could create a three-way tie atop the standings if Branson also wins Friday, potentially allowing Branson to claim the top seed via tiebreaker.

Wagner has been Redwood's driving force all season. After her game-winning kill in a five-set win over Branson on Sept. 24, she told the Marin IJ, "It felt insane … We've worked so hard. Our team has come out each day at practice working their butts off."

Wednesday's other results

Marin Catholic (11-10, 6-1) stayed one game behind Redwood with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-13 sweep of Archie Williams (16-9, 4-3).

San Marin's Brooke Brumley had nine aces and 17 digs in a 25-18, 25-15, 25-12 sweep of Novato. Brianna Nottingham added 14 kills for the Mustangs.
