Dozens of Terra Linda streets began closing Thursday, Aug. 20, as San Rafael crews launched a slurry seal project covering roughly 200,000 square yards of neighborhood roadway.

The work, part of the city's 2025/2026 Pavement Maintenance Project, runs weekdays through early September and will touch residential streets across Terra Linda in two phases, according to a city notice posted Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Crack seal work is scheduled for Aug. 20, 21, 24, 26 and 28. Slurry seal application follows from Tuesday, Aug. 25, through Friday, Sept. 4. All dates are weather-dependent.
Streets scheduled for crack seal work Thursday include Bamboo Terrace, Birchwood Court, Butternut Drive, Fowler Court, Le Claire Court, Mahogany Drive, several segments of Montecillo Drive, Tamarack Drive, Terra Linda Drive and Wellbrock Heights.
What residents need to know
No parking is allowed on streets scheduled for treatment each day. Some blocks close by address side, with even-numbered addresses treated in the morning and odd in the afternoon. Residents should watch for posted signs.
Home access will be maintained when possible. The city's project notice says schedule updates will be posted on its webpage and social media channels.
Busier corridors including Montecillo Road, Nova Albion Way and Golden Hinde Boulevard will stay open with lane restrictions and flaggers rather than full closures. Detour signs will guide drivers around residential blocks that are fully shut down.

How it's funded
The project is part of a broader pavement management program the San Rafael City Council reviewed at its Dec. 1, 2025, meeting. The Transportation Authority of Marin approved $789,000 in Measure AA sales tax funds for San Rafael's pavement program as part of an $11.76 million countywide allocation in July, according to the Marin Independent Journal.
"Measure AA is a critical investment in the local streets and roads Marin residents use every day," Mayor Kate Colin, who chairs the Transportation Authority of Marin, said in comments reported by the Marin IJ on Aug. 9.
The total cost of the Terra Linda project has not been disclosed.

Slurry seal work begins Tuesday, Aug. 25, with full closures on Sandalwood Court, San Mateo Court, Fowler Court, Terra Linda Drive, Santa Clara Court, Elda Court, Carroll Court, Wellbrock Heights and Luisa Court, among others. The final scheduled day is Friday, Sept. 4, covering Trellis Drive between Montecillo Drive and Esmeyer Drive.
