Marin County Sheriff's detectives arrested a Hayward man on suspicion of burglarizing a Marinwood gas station, where the sheriff’s office said someone used a crowbar and took scratch-off lottery tickets valued at more than $5,000.

Mario Anthony Bass, 39, was taken into custody Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Hayward, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said in an Instagram post. He was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony burglary, grand theft and vandalism, the sheriff's office said.

Surveillance footage captured someone breaking into the Marinwood 76 station with a crowbar, according to the sheriff’s post.

Detectives worked with California Lottery investigators to examine attempts to redeem the stolen tickets. Detectives used surveillance images from those attempts to help identify Bass as the suspect, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff's detectives worked with California Lottery investigators and East Bay law enforcement agencies. They located Bass in Hayward before making the arrest.
