San Rafael adults 50 and older can sign up for a new 10-week program focused on reframing how they think about getting older.

Vivalon, the downtown San Rafael nonprofit at 999 Third St., announced its "Aging Together: A Peer Support Program" on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The in-person sessions run Mondays from Oct. 5 through Dec. 7, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The program uses group conversations, storytelling and peer support to help participants examine how their beliefs about aging affect their well-being. Vivalon said the goal is to challenge common stereotypes and help older adults approach this stage of life with more confidence.

Registration is required. To sign up or ask questions, call 415-456-9062, ext. 136. The announcement, written by Vivalon's Bryttni Juve, did not list a cost or name a facilitator.

Marin's aging population

One-third of Marin County residents are projected to be 60 or older by 2030, according to a January 2026 press release from the Marin Cultural Association and Youth in Arts. That growing demographic is part of the backdrop for programs like Aging Together, which aim to build social connection among older adults.

In a July survey of more than 210 of its own members, Vivalon found that 77% said the organization helps them feel more connected to others. The survey results also signaled that new storytelling and art workshops were coming this fall.

Miriam, a 95-year-old Vivalon volunteer, described the atmosphere at the Third Street campus in an April 2026 volunteer appreciation post: "I love it here … Everyone is warm and welcoming. I've made new friends, have a great routine, and I never feel invisible."

Fall calendar

Aging Together is not the only new offering at Vivalon this fall. The nonprofit is also hosting "Vivalon After Dark: A Stage for Everyone with Corey Rosen" on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. That event costs $20 and requires registration at the same number.

Vivalon's Falls Prevention Awareness Week runs Tuesday, Sept. 22, through Sept. 25 at the Third Street campus.
