San Rafael High quarterback Freddy Yah threw for 312 yards and three touchdown passes and the Bulldogs' defense forced seven turnovers in a 35-12 win at Bethel on Friday, Sept. 25, in Vallejo, according to the Marin Independent Journal and a MaxPreps recap of the game.

The victory pushed San Rafael to 4-0 on the season under fourth-year head coach Casey Sully. The Bulldogs, who moved up to the Bay League this year, have won every game since opening with a 27-18 Bell Game victory over Terra Linda on Aug. 28, including a 58-14 win over St. Patrick-St. Vincent on Sept. 4 and a 13-0 win over Kennedy on Sept. 11, according to MaxPreps.

Yah connected with Will Healy twice in the first half to build a 21-12 halftime lead. Running back Rio Johnson then extended the margin to 28-12 with his second touchdown of the game, part of a 63-yard, two-touchdown rushing performance, per MaxPreps. Yah found Derek Dugan for the final score, according to the Marin Independent Journal.

The Bulldogs' defense forced seven turnovers. Linebacker Nico Colbert picked off two passes. Nikolai Bruce recorded three sacks. Johnson added a sack, a fumble recovery and two tackles for loss on the defensive side of the ball.

Several of those standouts earned postseason honors last year. Colbert was a first-team All-MCAL linebacker. Johnson was a first-team All-MCAL running back, and Healy made the second team at tight end.

Yah, a senior, took over the starting job from Lachlan Royston this fall. After the Aug. 28 Bell Game, Sully spoke about his new quarterback's play. "I let him make great decisions the whole time and he put us in a position to win, and kept us going in the right direction," Sully told the Marin Independent Journal.

The Bulldogs' Bay League opener is scheduled for Oct. 9 at Santa Rosa. First, San Rafael hosts Hercules on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m., per the Marin IJ 2026 schedule.
