A youth basketball coach who worked at a San Rafael academy faces three felony counts of lewd acts upon a 15-year-old girl after Novato police arrested him Monday, July 27, in Santa Rosa.
Charles Ramon Huff, 57, of Mill Valley was booked into the Marin County Jail with bail set at $250,000, the Marin Independent Journal reported. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, July 28, in Marin County Superior Court.
The charges carry a special allegation that Huff occupied a position of trust at the time of the alleged offenses.
Novato Police Lt. Sophia Winter told the Independent Journal that the alleged crime occurred in May 2026 but declined to provide further details. She did not say how the investigation began or why Novato police, rather than another agency, handled the case.
Academy connection
Huff coached at the North Bay Basketball Academy, which is based at 50 Lisbon St. in San Rafael and serves young athletes across Marin and Sonoma counties. The academy runs travel teams, skill clinics, leagues, and summer camps for boys and girls from kindergarten through eighth grade. Its summer 2026 camp schedule included sessions at sites in Mill Valley, Novato, and San Rafael, including Terra Linda High School.
Through an attorney, the academy confirmed Huff worked with the program and said it placed him on administrative leave pending an investigation. The academy said in a statement that it understands the alleged incident did not involve a participant in its program.
