San Rafael High's Autumn Tanner outdueled Sonoma Academy's Josie Hill in the final mile to win the girls varsity 3-mile race at the De La Salle Nike Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19, clocking 17:13.7, the fifth-fastest time in the course's history, according to MileSplit.
Tanner, a Second Team All-MCAL selection last season, had won the Lowell Invitational the week before. The back-to-back titles position her among the top runners in the county heading into league competition, according to the Marin Independent Journal.
She faces a tough MCAL field. Branson School senior Farah Allen, a First Team All-MCAL pick in 2025, won the MCAL-opening tri-meet at Lagunitas on Wednesday, Sept. 16, finishing in 17:03.08. Allen crossed more than 40 seconds ahead of the field. Teammate Hailey Sellers placed second, with Tanner third, Redwood's Kate Kozubik fourth and Branson's Maya Gidney fifth. Branson won team titles over both San Rafael and Redwood.
"As freshmen we were on a much smaller team … This year (with 24 girls), we are on a bigger squad, we've grown a lot," Allen said at the Stinson Beach Relays on Sept. 2.
The MCAL Cross Country Finals are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Indian Valley College.
Terra Linda football
Terra Linda junior quarterback Bo Jordan threw four touchdown passes as the Trojans beat Lowell 30-15 at home on Saturday, Sept. 19, avenging a 22-21 loss to the Cardinals last season, according to MaxPreps and the Marin Independent Journal. Jordan completed nearly 200 yards through the air, with three scoring throws going to receiver Santi Frias. Frias hauled in five catches for about 140 yards. David Malik caught the fourth touchdown.
The win was Terra Linda's third straight, improving the Trojans to 3-1. It was Lowell's first loss of the season, also dropping the Cardinals to 3-1, according to MaxPreps.
The performance marked a leap for Jordan, who went 9-for-22 for 132 yards in the Bell Game loss to San Rafael on Aug. 28. Frias, a 2025 MCAL Mountain Division First Team defensive back, is producing on both sides of the ball. Terra Linda opens MCAL play Saturday at 2 p.m. against Archie Williams.
