Riders on six Marin Transit bus routes will see schedule changes starting Sunday, Sept. 13, including a new afternoon trip on Route 30 from the San Rafael Transit Center and two canceled runs on Route 23.

Marin Transit announced the adjustments July 31, saying the changes address shifting roadway traffic patterns and aim to improve reliability across the system. A spokesperson was not made available for comment on the specific changes.

Route 30: new 3:05 p.m. departure

The biggest addition for San Rafael riders: Route 30, which connects the Canal neighborhood to downtown via Francisco Boulevard, will gain a 3:05 p.m. departure from the Transit Center. The route's existing weekday southbound schedule currently has a 30-minute gap between the 2:50 p.m. and 3:20 p.m. runs. The new trip fills that window.

The announcement describes it as an extra loop, though it is unclear whether the 3:05 p.m. departure is a full round trip or a one-way southbound run to Canal.

Route 23: two trips canceled

Route 23, which runs between Fairfax Manor and the Canal neighborhood through San Anselmo and the San Rafael Transit Center, will lose two eastbound trips. The 8:12 a.m. and 2:31 p.m. departures from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Olema Road will be eliminated. Minor runtime adjustments will also apply to remaining trips.

Route 57: timepoint shift in Terra Linda

Riders on Route 57, the San Rafael-to-Novato line via Northgate and Marinwood, will notice a scheduling reference change. The published timepoint at Miller Creek Road and Marinwood Avenue is moving to Las Gallinas Avenue and Elvia Court, slightly earlier in the northbound run. No stops are being eliminated.

Other routes

Routes 35 (Canal to Northgate via Civic Center) and 71 (Novato to Marin City via San Rafael) will see minor runtime changes only. Route 625, a school-oriented line serving Lagunitas and Archie Williams High School, picks up an extra eastbound trip at 2:31 p.m. on Wednesdays starting Sept. 13.

No new rider guide

Marin Transit said it will not publish a new printed Rider Guide for these changes. Updated schedules will be posted on individual route pages at marintransit.gov on Sept. 13.

The changes are administrative adjustments and do not appear to require a public hearing or board vote. They are separate from the fare policy changes Marin Transit proposed in July, which still face a board vote Oct. 5.
