The Marin County Board of Supervisors will vote Tuesday, Sept. 15, on $195,000 in community parks grants and a $272,470 auditorium contract. The spending items are part of the consent agenda for the 9 a.m. meeting at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael.

Consent agenda items can be approved in a single vote without discussion unless a board member pulls one for debate.

Parks grants spread across 28 groups

Marin County Parks is asking the board to approve 28 Breathe/Respira Community Grant agreements funded by Parks Measure A, the quarter-cent sales tax voters renewed in June 2022. The grants total $195,000.

Measure A directs 15% of its revenue to grants supporting parks, open space and recreation facilities in Marin cities, towns and special districts, according to the county parks website. The names of the 28 grant recipients and individual award amounts were not listed in the agenda packet.

Gold gates contract adds to auditorium overhaul

The Department of Public Works wants the board to award a $247,700 contract to Topline Welding Services, Inc. for the Veterans' Memorial Auditorium (VMA) Gold Gates and Fence Construction, plus a 10% contingency of $24,770, according to the Sept. 15 meeting agenda.

The gates project is the latest piece of a multiyear renovation of the VMA, described in a county news release as Marin's largest indoor entertainment venue. The auditorium has been closed for three and a half years. On Nov. 4, 2025, supervisors approved an $11.7 million construction contract with Alten Construction, LLC for building systems upgrades. On May 5, 2026, the board added $1.35 million for seat reupholstering and $275,000 for dome roof recoating.

The county announced on March 19 that the auditorium is set to reopen in January 2027. A separate item on Tuesday's consent agenda would extend the construction management contract with Cumming Management Group, Inc. through Feb. 12, 2027, to support completion of that work.

Heritage month proclamation

Supervisors will also adopt a resolution proclaiming Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as Latin American Heritage Month in Marin County.

The agenda includes a $42,000 supplemental contingency increase for the Marin City Road Rehabilitation Project, bringing the project's total authorized cost, including contingency, to $626,485.

Appointments

Supervisors will also consider appointments to the Commission on Aging, the Behavioral Health Board and the Women's Commission. These are handled separately from the consent agenda.
