Marin Humane has shared its account of reuniting Wesley, a 12-year-old golden retriever taken from a San Rafael front yard, with his family.

In its Oct. 28 volunteer newsletter, the shelter described how a passerby found Wesley without a collar on Ignacio Boulevard in Novato and brought him in.

Wesley’s return had already been reported by Patch on Oct. 22.

According to Marin Humane, some staff members and volunteers recognized Wesley when he arrived. The shelter contacted his guardian, who identified him from a photograph and came to collect him.

The newsletter said Wesley had been taken from his front yard in San Rafael’s Lincoln Hill neighborhood. Home security footage showed someone approaching with a leash and leading him away, according to the shelter’s account.

Marin Humane said it did not know who took Wesley, why he was taken or how he reached Novato.

Before Wesley went home, the shelter gave him a microchip.

The organization used the reunion to encourage owners to microchip their pets and file a lost-animal report promptly when a pet disappears. It also urged anyone who finds a stray animal to contact its Animal Services Department, available around the clock at 415-883-4621.
