Marin County will hold two community workshops in San Rafael on Saturday, Nov. 14. The sessions are part of a countywide effort to write the county’s first strategic plan in more than 25 years.

The workshops belong to Envision Marin, a yearlong planning effort that aims to set priorities for county services, budgets and investments over the next six years. Seven workshops across the county begin Thursday, Nov. 12, in Ross and run through early December, according to a county news release.

The two San Rafael sessions are:

  • Saturday, Nov. 14, 10-11:30 a.m. at the Marin County Civic Center, Board Chambers, third floor, 3501 Civic Center Drive.
  • Saturday, Nov. 14, 1:30-3 p.m. at the Marin Health & Wellness Campus, Connection Center, Rooms 109-110, 3240 Kerner Blvd. This session will be facilitated in Spanish.

Registration is encouraged but not required. Walk-ins are welcome at all in-person workshops. Child care will be available at select locations, and participants should check individual workshop details for availability.

The county is working with The Centre for Organization Effectiveness to run the sessions. Participants will discuss what they value about Marin, the challenges they believe need more attention and what they want the county to look like in five to 10 years, the news release said.

In a September press release announcing the effort, County Executive Derek Johnson said the county has lacked a single countywide plan connecting its work for more than 25 years. He said Envision Marin would let residents “help shape those choices before we carry them into future budgets and department work plans.”

Over the past 25 years, the Board of Supervisors and county departments have addressed housing, homelessness, emergency preparedness and climate resilience through separate plans and budgets, according to the county. Envision Marin would bring that work under one plan.

Beyond the in-person workshops, the county is accepting input through its online platform, Engage Marin. Two virtual workshops are also planned: a Spanish-language session on Wednesday, Dec. 2, and an English-language session on Saturday, Dec. 5. Online participation details for both have not been announced.

Community input gathered this fall will feed into draft goals and strategies this winter. The Board of Supervisors is expected to review a draft plan in early 2027, with implementation planning running through summer 2027.
