San Rafael High's football team shut out Hercules 40-0 on Friday, Oct. 2, delivering a Homecoming rout that pushed the Bulldogs to 5-0 on the season.

Five skill-position starters scored within the first 13 minutes. San Rafael built a 34-0 lead early in the second quarter and never looked back, according to the Marin Independent Journal.

Quarterback Freddy Yah threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with Jasper Cumberland (83 receiving yards), Thomas Hellyer and Will Healy (67 yards). Running back Rio Johnson added 75 yards on six carries and scored on the ground.

Derek Dugan recovered an offensive fumble and took it into the end zone. He later caught a touchdown pass from backup quarterback Chris De Luna.

The defense was just as dominant.

Hercules (0-5) did not record a single first down. Casey Earnest picked off a pass, giving San Rafael its second shutout of 2026.

Earnest has carried that energy all season. After the Bulldogs' 27-18 Bell Game win over Terra Linda on Aug. 29, Earnest told the Marin IJ, "This sets the tone for the season." San Rafael has not lost since.

Head coach and athletics director Casey Sully, now in his fourth year leading the program, has built steady momentum. After San Rafael's overtime win over Tamalpais on Sept. 12, Sully told the SRHS student paper Off the Leash that his seniors know the system after four years in the program. "It just felt like we've been building for this moment and this opportunity for a long time," he said.

The Bulldogs, promoted to the Bay League this season, now face their first league test. San Rafael travels to Santa Rosa on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
