Artists have until Sunday, August 2, to apply for a spot in "Lines and Layers," a juried exhibition opening at the Falkirk Cultural Center on Friday, September 11.
The City of San Rafael posted the call for artists on Monday, July 20, inviting submissions in drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fiber, mixed media, and other two- or three-dimensional forms. The show runs through Friday, October 23, at the city-owned center at 1408 Mission Ave.
The theme asks artists to explore lines, layers, or the relationship between the two. The city's announcement describes how lines "guide our eyes, define form, and create movement," while layers "add depth, texture, history, and complexity." Organizers encouraged broad interpretation of how these elements shape art and the surrounding environment.
Because the show is juried, not all applicants are guaranteed a place. The city's announcement does not name the jurors or list submission fees, entry limits, or size restrictions. Artists with questions can email [email protected] or call (415) 485-3328 for details.
Falkirk Cultural Center occupies an 1888 Queen Anne and Eastlake-style Victorian on an 11-acre estate listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Captain Robert Dollar purchased the property in 1906 and named it after his Scottish hometown. The center has hosted exhibitions and community programming since 1974.
Gallery admission is free. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 1 to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors should call ahead to confirm the center is not closed for a private event.
Two summer exhibitions are on view through Friday, August 21: "Yellow: Touched by the Sun" and "Spaces: A Shared Perspective."
