Voters in San Rafael’s District 3 will choose between business owner Daryoush Davidi and attorney Robert Sandoval in the Tuesday, Nov. 3, City Council election. The seat carries a four-year term, according to Marin County’s candidate guide.
Election results are pending. This article will be updated as election officials release vote totals.
The seat is open because incumbent Maribeth Bushey is not seeking reelection, Bay City News reported.
The county’s official ballot list confirms both candidates are running for the District 3 seat.
The candidates
Davidi, who listed his age as 51 in his county-published candidate statement, says he immigrated to California at age 12. He founded United With Earth, an organic specialty produce company, in 2007, according to his campaign biography.
He chairs the San Rafael Police Advisory and Accountability Committee and has served on the boards of the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, the San Rafael Fire Foundation and the Peacock Gap Homeowners Association, according to his candidate statement.
Sandoval, who listed his age as 35, holds a law degree from the University of Chicago. He served as a California deputy attorney general under Kamala Harris and Xavier Becerra, according to his campaign biography. He sits on the Marin County Planning Commission and the San Rafael Park and Recreation Commission.
Key issues
In their county-published candidate statements, Davidi emphasizes public safety, downtown businesses and infrastructure. Sandoval emphasizes government transparency, traffic safety, infrastructure and housing that fits local neighborhoods.
San Rafael voters are also deciding Measure W, which would raise the city’s real property transfer tax from 0.2% to 1%. The tax applies when property changes ownership, rather than as an annual property tax. Revenue would go into the city’s general fund, according to the city attorney’s impartial analysis.
